Philip Lorca Dicorcia

Last week I went to see an exhibition by one of my favourite photographers - Philip Lorca Dicorcia at the Sprueth Magers gallery The show is Called 'ROIDS' and features his polaroids from his shoots from the past 30 years. I love his work and seeing what are effectively out takes from his work was pretty special.

Easter

During the Easter holidays I spent 3 weeks in Thailand, my sister lives there on a farm with her husband and my niece and nephew, I've been there a few times before. I really love it there and am now constantly trying to think of ways that I can go back there as soon as possible.

Some photo's:

Speaking of which...

Another album cover I absolutely love at the moment is Metronomy's 'The English Riviera'. Simple, yet stylish and totally suits the album.

AnR

Last week I went to see my favourite band of the moment in a dingy basement in a bar in Dalston, they were over from Miami & I was one of about 15 people in the audience but it was amazing. Check them out .
I really love their album artwork.

Submarine

I've been meaning to post about the film 'Submarine' by Richard Ayoade for ages, I enjoyed the film but what struck me most was the graphics used for the title sequences and the poster, I loved all of the packaging of the film, the graphics are stunning, clever and considered.

Paul Graham

A couple of weeks ago I went to see the Paul Graham exhibition at The Whitechapel Gallery it's a retrospective of his work between 1981-2006. My favourites were the series in Northern Ireland called 'Troubled Land', I love how they seem like innocuous landscapes or street scenes until you look closer and there's a soldier with a gun or a helicopter which gives them a real menacing and quite shocking edge.

VCT Timeline

For our VCT project we had to do a timeline of a movement or subject relating to Graphic design, I chose to do Movie Title sequences but I wanted to avoid concentrating on Saul Bass, Maurice Binder, Pablo Ferro etc and instead look at the history that led up to the emergence of Saul Bass etc and what they created. It was so interesting as I had to not only look at Movie Titles but the history of animation and film and the industry in Hollywood. I really loved doing the research, not least because I got to sit and watch a lot of title sequences and animations, here are a few of my favourites.

Thank you for Smoking, Se7en,  Dr Strangelove, Walk on the Wildside and To kill a Mockingbird
